My current body of abstract expressionist paintings is an exploration of the multiple meanings of the term ”the vapours”.  The act of creation, no matter my medium, has always been a means to find calm and space in a busy and often turbulent world.  My paintings demonstrate the interplay of hard and soft edges, transparency and opacity, and a sense of movement that alludes to water vapor, mist, and steam.  Juxtaposed with this therapeutic act of creation is the alternate meaning of “the vapours” which was a term used to dismiss women’s mental health concerns and dates back to the 18th Century.   Much like the misty movements of my paint strokes, the varied meanings of “the vapours” threads itself throughout my artwork and is a reflection of both my inner and outer world.
